Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in May 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 239 cases in the month of May 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 118 cases were reported and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 49% of the total cases during the month of May 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involved incidents of sexual abuse of children with 36 reported cases out of which 25 victims were girls.
  • Other forms of violence against children included 27 cases of physical abuse, 19 cases of emotional abuse, 24 cases of neglect, 1 case of child death, and 4 cases of bullying.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 10 cases were reported to the Ministry regarding children in conflict with the law.
  • Reports include 2 cases of physical assault / aggression, 2 cases of stealing, 2 cases of drug use, 1 case of driving without license.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 19 cases were reported and attended regarding behavioral problems of children
  • Reports include, 3 cases of perpetrators of bullying, 3 cases of runaway, 2 cases of perpetrators of harassment.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to the Ministry regarding child rights violations in the month of May 2017.
  • Cases reported included, 5 cases of refusal for access to education, 2 cases of violation of right to safe drinking water / electricity, 1 case of violation of right to shelter and 1 case of acquiring NID card / passport / birth certificate.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 33 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were also reported and attended which amounts to over 14% of the total cases during May 2017.
  • From the reports received, the most frequently reported cases involved forms of physical violence and abuse with 13 reported cases out of which 11 victims were women.
  • Other cases reported in this category include 1 case of rape, 3 cases of neglect, 1 case of intimidation, 1 case of forced marriage, 1 case of sexual harassment, 1 case of control behaviour, 10 cases of emotional / verbal abuse, and 1 case of economic and financial abuse.

Care and support for elderly and people with disabilities

  • A total of 9 cases were reported and attended in this category in May 2017.
  • Cases reported included, 6 cases regarding care and support to disabilities and 3 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • A total of 15 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal thought and behavior were reported and attended.
