Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in April 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 272 cases in the month of April 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 122 cases were reported and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to over 40% of the total cases during the month of April 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involved incidents of physical abuse of children with 37 reported cases out of which 21 victims were boys.
  • Other forms of violence against children included 33 cases of neglect; 25 cases of sexual abuse; 17 cases of emotional abuse and 8 cases of bullying.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 15 cases were reported to the Ministry regarding children in conflict with the law.
  • Reports include 3 cases of stealing; 2 cases of drug possession; 2 cases of physical assault and aggression and 1 case of drug use.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 16 cases were reported and attended regarding behavioral problems of children
  • Reports include, 8 cases of temper tantrums; 3 cases of perpetrators of harassment;

2 cases of running away and 2 cases of perpetrators of bullying.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 3 cases were reported to the Ministry regarding child rights violations in the month of April 2017.
  • Cases reported included, 2 cases of refusal to access to healthcare and 1 caseof violation of right to education.

 

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 47 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were also reported and attended which amounts to over 15% of the total cases during April 2017.
  • From the reports received, the most frequently reported cases involved forms of physical violence and abuse with 21 reported cases out of which 18 victims were women.
  • Other cases reported in this category include 13 cases of emotional or verbal abuse; 4 cases of neglect; 3 cases of sexual abuse and 3 cases if intimidation.

Care and support for elderly and people with disabilities

  • A total of 21 cases were reported and attended in this category in April 2017.
  • Cases reported included, 13 cases regarding care and support to disabilities and 8 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • A total of 15 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal thought and behavior were reported and attended.
