Training conducted for staff at Fiyavathi Shelter on best practices for taking care of children with Autism

Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted a special training for staff of Fiyavathi Shelter in Hulhumale’, on best practices for taking care of children with Autism.

Sessions covered in the programme included information on health and development of children with Autism, providing assistance, care and protection, children’s behaviour modification and skills development through hands-on experience.

Certificates were awarded to the participants at the closing ceremony held today, at the Autism Centre in Hulhumale’. Speaking at the ceremony, Programme Manager of the Ministry Ms. Jala Zuhury noted that this programme, designed by Maldives Autism Association would bring positive changes for children with Autism at Fiyavathi shelter. She further expressed hope to continue collaboration with civil society organizations to conduct similar programmes in the future.

A total of 16 staff, including supervisors, teachers and careworkers participated in this training, which was held from 17 to 30 April in collaboration with Kurumba Maldives, Advocating Rights of Children (ARC) and Maldives Autism Association, under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry.
