Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in March 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 217 cases in March 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 125 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 58 percent of the total cases received and attended in March 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve physical abuse and neglect. A total of 27 cases of physical abuse and 27 cases of neglect were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 23 cases of sexual abuse, 22 cases of emotional abuse, 15 cases of bullying and harassment, 7 cases of witness to domestic violence, 3 cases of child abandonment and 1 case of cyber bullying.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 3 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in March 2017.
  • Reports include 2 cases of refusal for access to education, 1 case of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal of access to health or medical care.

Family issues

  • A total of 23 cases were reported to and attended in this category in March 2018.
  • Reports include 9 cases of custody or access, 8 cases of parenting issues and 1 case of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 12 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in March 2018, which included 6 cases of theft.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 12 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in March 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases of running away, 3 cases of perpetrators of cyber bullying, 2 cases of temper tantrums and 2 cases of refusal to attend school.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 31 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in March 2018, which amounts to 14 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 19 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 3 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of economic & financial abuse, 3 cases of neglect, 2 cases of intimidation and 1 case of controlling behavior.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 5 cases were reported to and attended in this category in March 2018.
  • Reports include 3 cases regarding care and support for elderly and 2 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 5 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in March 2018.
