“Ahan” Campaign reaches 4,390 children over the past 2 years, with the sessions conducted in Fuvahmulah City

Through the “Ahan” Campaign launched to prevent child abuse and empower children against all forms of violence, the Ministry of Gender and Family has reached a total of 4,390 students over the past two years, with the sessions that were held in Fuvahmulah City.

Since 2016, the programme has been conducted in all islands of Kaafu Atoll, Vaavu Atoll, Meemu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll as well as some islands of Haa Alif Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Shaviyani Atoll.

The sessions targeted for students from Grades 4 to 8 were conducted in two phases in Fuvahmulah City, with the first phase being held from 21 – 22 November 2017 for a total of 52 children. A total of 626 students participated in the second phase which was held from 17 – 19 July 2018.

The students were provided information on how to protect themselves from abuse and neglect, ways to respond and report, and how to provide support for victims of child abuse. The sessions were held in collaboration with Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC).
