Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in June 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 174 cases in June 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 79 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 45 percent of the total cases received and attended in June 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of negligence, of which 25 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 18 cases of physical violence, 18 cases of sexual abuse, 5 cases of witness to domestic violence, 5 cases of emotional abuse, 4 cases of child abandonment, 2 cases of exploitation and 2 cases of bullying and harassment.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 7 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in June 2018.
  • Reports include 3 case of violation of right to health care and medical, 2 cases of denial of birth registration and 2 cases of refusal for access to education.

Family issues

  • A total of 22 cases were reported to and attended in this category in June 2018, which amounts to 13 percent of the total cases received and attended last month.
  • Reports include 12 cases of parenting issues and 10 cases of custody or access.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 2 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in June 2018.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in June 2018.
  • Reports include 4 cases of refusal to attend school, 3 cases of running away and 1 case of perpetrator of cyber bullying.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 33 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in June 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 12 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 9 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 4 cases of intimidation, 3 cases of sexual abuse, 2 cases of controlling behavior, 2 cases of rape and 1 case of stalking.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended in this category in June 2018.
  • Reports include 8 cases related to care and support for elderly and 6 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 7 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in June 2018.
