Minister of Gender and Family undertakes an official visit to Bahrain

Minister of Gender and Family H.E. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has made an official visit to Bahrain from 25 – 27 September 2017. During her visit, Minister Zenysha met with Bahrain’s Minister of Labour and Social Development H.E. Jameel Bin Mohammed Ali Hamaidan and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Khalifa.

At the meeting with the Minister of Labour and Social Development, Minister Zenysha shared information about the work of the Ministry of Gender and Family and the challenges faced by Small Island States, particularly in providing protection for vulnerable groups. The Ministers also discussed collaboration in the social sector between Maldives and Bahrain. In addition, Minister Zenysha discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries, during her meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Zenysha also paid a visit to the Community Centre operated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, an Elderly Home and ‘Abdul Rahman Kanoo Elderly Club’ – a daycare centre for senior citizens. She observed the skill building programmes conducted by the Centres and handicrafts by women and senior citizens. Minister Zenysha further met with children living at Batelco Children’s Home and acquired information about protection measures put in place for children under state care.

During her visit, Minister Zenysha also met with the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women, Ms. Hala Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari, and Board Members of the Association for Women – one of the leading NGOs in Bahrain. Discussions were held on programmes for women’s empowerment, protection and gender equality.

In addition, Minister Zenysha also visited Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohamed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research.
