Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in September 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 213 cases in September 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 104 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 49 percent of the total cases received and attended in September 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve incidents of physical abuse. A total of 43 cases were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 24 cases of physical abuse, 17 cases of emotional abuse, 8 cases of neglect, 4 cases of child abandonment, 4 cases of bullying and harassment and 4 cases of witness to domestic violence.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 10 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in September 2017.
  • Reports include 2 cases of vandalism or deliberate damage to property, 1 case of stealing and 1 case of drug use.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 10 cases were reported and attended to regarding behavioural problems of children in September 2017.
  • Reports include 4 cases of refusal to attend school, 3 cases of temper tantrums and 3 cases of running away.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 8 cases were reported and attended to regarding child rights violations in September 2017.
  • Reports include 4 cases of refusal for access to education and 4 cases of refusal for access to health care.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 32 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported and attended to in September 2017, which amounts to 15 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, where 14 cases of physical abuse were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of intimidation, 6 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 1 case of rape, 1 case of neglect, 1 case of controlling behavior, 1 case of commercial exploitation and 1 case of economic and financial abuse.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 19 cases were reported and attended to in this category in September 2017.
  • Reports include 14 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 5 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • A total of 12 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported and attended to in September 2017.
