Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in May 2021

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 152 cases in May 2021.

Violence against Children:

  • A total of 71 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in May 2021.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 21 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 16 cases of negligence, 15 cases of physical abuse, 9 cases of witness to domestic violence, 8 cases of emotional abuse and 2 cases of victims of bullying and harassment.

Behavioral problems:

  • A total of 4 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems in May 2021.
  • Reports include 2 cases of refusal to attend school.

Child rights violations:

  • A total of 5 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2021.
  • Reports include 3 cases of refusal of access to education and 1 case of birth registration.

 

Children in conflict with law:

  • A total of 3 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2021.
  • Reports includes 1 case of physical assault / aggression and 1 case of theft.

Family Issues:

  • A total of 12 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2021.
  • Reports include 6 cases of parenting issues and 6 cases of custody or access.

Gender based violence and Domestic violence:

  • A total of 34 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in May 2021.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve 15 cases of physical abuse.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 14 cases of emotional abuse/verbal abuse, 2 cases of intimidation, 1 case of sexual abuse, 1 case of rape and 1 case withholding / damage to property.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities:

  • A total of 15 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2021.
  • Reports include 9 cases of care support for persons with disabilities and 6 cases of care and support to the elderly.

Self-harm and Suicidal behavior:

  • 8 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in May 2021.

Children under State care, Fostered and Reintegrated:

  • 1 child was taken to State care in May 2021.
  • 1 child (turned 18) was reintegrated to the society with employment during May 2021.
  • There are a total of 216 children under State care as of May 2021.
