Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in July 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 290 cases in July 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 152 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 52 percent of the total cases received and attended in July 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 51 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 42 cases of physical violence, 42 cases of negligence, 9 cases of emotional abuse, 5 cases of bullying and harassment, 2 cases of witness to domestic violence and 1 case of child abandonment.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in July 2018.
  • Reports include 12 cases of refusal for access to education and 1 case of violation of right to health care and medical.

Family issues

  • A total of 21 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2018, which amounts to 7 percent of the total cases received and attended last month.
  • Reports include 12 cases of parenting issues and 9 cases of custody or access.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 20 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in July 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases of theft, 4 cases of drug use, 3 cases of physical assault and aggression, 3 cases of carrying sharp weapons and 2 cases of vandalism and deliberate damage to Property.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 18 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in July 2018.
  • Reports include 7 cases of refusal to attend school, 6 cases of running away and 2 cases of perpetrators of bullying.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 45 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in July 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 24 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 8 cases of intimidation, 3 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of negligence, 2 cases of controlling behavior, 2 cases of withholding or damage to property, 1 case of sexual abuse, 1 case of commercial exploitation and 1 case of economic and financial abuse.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2018.
  • Reports include 9 cases related to care and support for elderly and 5 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 6 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in July 2018.
