Sessions held in Vaavu Atoll to empower children against abuse

Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted a series of awareness sessions for a total of 122 students in Vaavu Atoll under its “Ahan” Campaign, to prevent child abuse and empower children against all forms of violence.

The sessions, conducted from 27 – 28 June 2018, were held in Vaavu Atoll Fulhidhoo, Felhidhoo and Keyodhoo, for children studying in Grades 4 to 8.

The students were provided information on how to protect themselves from abuse and neglect, ways to respond and report, and how to provide support for victims of child abuse.

The sessions were conducted in collaboration with Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC).

“Ahan” campaign was launched by the Ministry in 2015 to prevent child abuse and neglect, as over 50 percent of cases reported and attended by the Ministry every month includes cases of violence against children. Under this campaign, awareness sessions have been conducted in all the islands of Meemu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi to date.
