Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in January 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 224 cases in January 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 94 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 42 percent of the total cases received and attended in January 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve physical abuse. A total of 33 cases were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 23 cases of neglect, 20 cases of sexual abuse, 11 cases of emotional abuse, 5 cases of witness to domestic violence and 2 cases of exploitation.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 6 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in January 2018, which included cases of stealing and drug use.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 11 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in January 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases of running away, 3 cases of temper tantrums and 2 cases of refusal to attend school.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 24 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in January 2018.
  • Reports include 1 case of denial of birth registration, 1 case of refusal to vaccinate children and 22 other cases.

Family issues

  • A total of 41 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2018.
  • Reports include 27 cases of custody or access, 9 cases of child maintenance and 5 cases of parenting issues.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 28 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in January 2018, which amounts to 5 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse and intimidating, of which 8 cases of physical abuse and 8 cases of intimidating were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 6 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of sexual abuse, 2 cases of rape and 1 case of neglect.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 17 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 12 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • 3 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior was reported to and attended in January 2018.
