Ministry conducts orientation and training programme to establish Community Social Groups in GA.Atoll

Ministry of Gender and Family in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Maldives Police Service and Juvenile Justice Unit has conducted an orientation and training programme to establish Community Social Groups (CSGs) in Gaafu Alif Atoll.

The objective of the programme is to empower Community Social Group members to implement their roles and responsibilities in providing support and improving services to vulnerable children, elderly, persons with disabilities and victims of domestic violence.

A total of 44 participants from nine islands took part in the programme which was held from 23 to 25 January. The composition of CSG’s include social workers and representatives from Island Council, Police, health and education sector, and Women’s Development Committee.

Initiated to identify and assist vulnerable groups who require special protection and support within the community, the Ministry has established CSG’s in Shaviyani Atoll, Baa Atoll, Kaafu Atoll, Fuvahmulah and Addu City.
