Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in December 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 203 cases in December 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 87 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 43 percent of the total cases received and attended in December 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve sexual abuse. A total of 29 cases were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 27 cases of physical abuse, 13 cases of neglect, 10 cases of emotional abuse, 5 cases of witness to domestic violence, 2 cases of cyber bullying and harassment and 1 case of commercial exploitation.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 10 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in December 2017, which included cases of stealing and drug use.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 7 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in December 2017.
  • Reports include 5 cases of running away, 1 case of temper tantrums and 1 case of refusal to attend school.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 8 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in December 2017.
  • Reports include 5 cases of refusal for access to education, 1 case of refusal to acquire NID card or passport or birth certificate, 1 case of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal of access to health or medical care.

Family issues

  • A total of 38 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2017.
  • Reports include 20 cases of custody or access, 11 cases of parenting issues, and 7 cases of child maintenance.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 38 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in December 2017, which amounts to 19 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 20 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 9 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 6 cases of controlling behavior, 1 case of intimidation, 1 case of withholding and damage to property and 1 case of stalking.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2017.
  • Reports include 6 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 8 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • 1 case regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior was reported to and attended in December 2017.
