Ministry holds a Child Participation Forum to initiate dialogue and discussion on the National Action Plan on Violence Against Children

Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted a Child Participation Forum to initiate dialogue and discussion on the National Action Plan on Violence Against Children, to protect children from all forms of violence, abuse and neglect.

A total of 35 children between the ages of 15 and 17 participated in the forum which was held today at Champa Central Hotel, in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives. Participants included students from Ahmadhiyya International School, Villa International High School, MAPS International High and Centre for Higher Secondary Education. Students from the class for hearing impaired children of Jamaluddin School also participated in the forum.

At the forum, children deliberated and presented their views on the National Action Plan. Discussions were also held on existing gaps in the child protection system in the country and preventive measures that can be taken by relevant authorities to address the issues. Furthermore, the child participants also discussed ways to increase public awareness and measures that can be taken to protect children through the legislative framework.

The National Action Plan on Violence Against Children was formulated in August 2017, for a period of two years, with the contribution of relevant Ministries, State Institutions, civil society and international experts.
