Cases Reported and Attended by the Ministry in July 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 260 cases in July 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 126 cases were reported and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 48 percent of the total cases received and attended in July 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve incidents of physical abuse. A total of 44 cases were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 31 cases of sexual abuse, 25 cases of neglect, 11 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of witness to domestic violence, 6 cases of bullying and harassment, 1 case of cyber bullying and 1 case of sexual exploitation.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 11 cases were reported and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in July 2017.
  • Reports include 3 cases of physical assault or aggression and 1 case of stealing.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 18 cases were reported and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in July 2017.
  • Reports include 7 cases of temper tantrums, 6 cases of cyber bullying, 3 cases of refusal to attend school and 2 cases of harassment.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 8 cases were reported and attended regarding child rights violations in July 2017.
  • Reports include 2 cases of acquiring NID card / Passport / Birth Certificate, 1 case of birth registration, 1 case of refusal to vaccinate, 1 case of refusal for access to health care and 3 cases of refusal for access to education.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 37 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported and attended in July 2017, which amounts to 14 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical and emotional abuse, where 10 cases of physical abuse and 10 cases of emotional abuse were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 6 cases of sexual violence or abuse, 6 cases of intimidation, 2 cases of neglect, 1 case of rape, 1 case of stalking and 1 case of sexual harassment.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 20 cases were reported and attended in this category in July 2017.
  • Reports include 11 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 9 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • A total of 9 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported and attended in July 2017.
