Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in December 2019

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 283 cases in December 2019.

Violence against children

  • A total of 134 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in December 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of negligence, of which 66 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 27 cases of sexual abuse, 15 cases of physical abuse, 14 cases of emotional abuse, 8 cases of witness to domestic violence and 4 cases of exploitation.

 

Child rights violations

  • A total of 17 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2019.
  • Reports include 7 cases of refusal to vaccinate children, 6 cases of refusal of access to education, 2 cases of denial of birth registration, 1 case of violation of right to health care and medical, and 1 case of forced child marriage.

Family issues

  • A total of 30 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2019.
  • Reports include 20 cases of custody or access, 9 cases of parenting issues and 1 case of child maintenance.

 

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2019.
  • Reports include 1 case of disobedience, 1 case of drug use, and 1 case of vandalism and damage to property.

 

 Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems of children in December 2019.
  • Reports include 7 cases of running away.

 

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 44 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in December 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 18 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 11 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 6 cases of intimidation, 2 cases of negligence, 2 cases of rape, 1 case of sexual abuse, 1 case stalking, 1 case sexual harassment, 1 case of withholding or damage to property and 1 case of controlling behavior.

 

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 33 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2019.
  • Reports include 27 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 6 cases related to care and support to elderly.

 

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 3 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in December 2019.
