Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in January 2020

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 243 cases in January 2020.

Violence against children

  • A total of 121 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in January 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 48 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 43 cases of negligence, 15 cases of physical abuse, 9 cases of emotional abuse, 4 cases of bullying and harassment and 2 cases of witness to domestic violence.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 16 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2020.
  • Reports include 11 cases of refusal of access to education, 3 cases of refusal to vaccinate children and 2 cases of violation of right to health care and medical.

Family issues

  • A total of 23 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2020.
  • Reports include 11 cases of custody or access, 6 cases of parenting issues and 6 cases of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 4 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2020.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems of children in January 2020.
  • Reports include 3 cases of running away and 3 cases of refusal to attend school.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 34 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in January 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 13 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 8 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 6 cases of sexual abuse, 3 cases of rape, 2 cases of intimidation, 1 case of controlling behavior and 1 case of negligence.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 30 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2020.
  • Reports include 21 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 9 cases related to care and support to elderly.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 6 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in January 2020.
