Ministry commences educational programmes at Fiyavathi Shelter

Ministry of Gender and Family has commenced new educational programmes for children placed under state care at Fiyavathi Shelter, currently home to 85 children below the age of 10 years.

The Ministry has partnered with the Centre for Holy Quran to initiate a series of Quran and Islam classes for children above 3 years of age. The Ministry has also collaborated with MI College to commence ‘Young Learners’ English’ programme to improve the standard of spoken and written English of children above the age of 7 years. The Ministry would like to express sincere appreciation to Allied Insurance Private Limited for partnering with the Ministry to conduct this programme.

The Ministry expresses sincere gratitude to all donors and partners that provide invaluable support and assistance in conducting educational and recreational programmes for children in State Care. The Ministry hopes to expand collaboration with government institutions, private sector and civil society organizations to provide greater opportunities for children living in shelters.
