Ministry of Gender and Family has commenced a special recreational programme for children living in Fiyavathi shelter, currently home to 85 children below the age of 10 years.
The Ministry has collaborated with Basketball Starz Academy to initiate regular basketball practices for children above 6 years of age. The Ministry has also partnered with Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) and Beach Club Maldives Water Sports to organise water sports activities for children above 5 years of age. The Ministry would like to express sincere appreciation to the Sailing Association of Maldives, Maldives Bodyboarding Association, The Perfect Wave Surf Experience, Maldives National Defence Force, Maldives Police Service, Avahteri Initiatives, Voloris Private Limited and Housing Development Cooperation, for supporting the water sports programme.
The Ministry expresses sincere gratitude to all donors and partners that provide invaluable support and assistance in conducting educational and recreational programmes for children in State Care. The Ministry hopes to expand collaboration with government institutions, private sector and civil society organizations to provide greater opportunities for children living in shelters.
