Ministry marks 16 Days of Activism – International Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls

The Ministry of Gender and Family in collaboration with UNWomen has started a Door to Door campaign in Lhaviyani Atoll today, to mark the International Campaign to end Violence Against Women and Girls. The purpose of the door-to-door campaign is to raise awareness on Domestic Violence and Violence against Children and get community perceptions about this pressing issue.

On this occasion, Minister Zenysha highlighted that “it is a collective responsibility of everyone to raise awareness on violence against women and girls, reach out and provide support to victims”.

The International Campaign to End Violence against Women and Girls, is a 16-day campaign marked worldwide from 25 November till 10 December, and this years’s theme is “Orange the World; Raise money to end Violence against Women and Girls” In addition to the door-to-door campaign, the Ministry of Gender and Family along with Family Protection Authority will commence a public social media campaign.

The International Campaign to End Violence against Women and Girls was initiated in 1991 to raise awareness on violence against women and girls and to highlight the message that women’s issues are human rights issues. Maldives has been celebrating this campaign since 2010.
