The Ministry of Gender and Family has today commenced a training programme on capacity building of social workers, in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Gender and Family Hon. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki highlighted the increase in reports of violence and abuse, and expressed hope that this training will help enhance skills of social workers to respond to such cases, as well as identify and address challenges faced in providing services to victims of child abuse, domestic violence and other vulnerable groups.
A total of 28 participants from each of the 19 Family and Children Service Centers (FCSCs) as well as Ministry staff are participating in the 5-day training programme being held from 19 to 23 November 2016.
The training programme aims to increase the capacity of social workers to act as agents of change in the community, and enhance services provided by FCSCs to vulnerable groups who require protection and support.
