His Excellency President Abdulaa Yameen Abdul Gayoom ratified the Bill on Gender Equality today. Upon ratification, the act has now been published in the Government Gazette.
The Gender Equality Act seeks to eliminate discrimination between genders and establish the role of the Government and other agencies in its implementation.
The Gender Equality Bill was passed by the Parliament at the 16th sitting of the Second Session of the Parliament held on 16 August 2016. The Act will be implemented within 6 months after publication in the Government gazette.
