Minister Zenysha establishes a Stakeholder Working Group for vulnerable children

Minister of Gender and Family Ms. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has today established a Stakeholder Working Group for vulnerable children. The purpose of the Stakeholder Working Group is to strengthen inter-agency coordination in addressing challenging issues concerning vulnerable children.

The Stakeholder Working Group comprises of representatives of the Ministry of Gender and Family, Juvenile Justice Unit of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Family and Child Protection Department of the Maldives Police Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the UNICEF. With the establishment of the Stakeholder Working Group, Minister Zenysha thanked all stakeholder agencies for their participation and cooperation and expressed hope that this would enable stakeholders to explore and formulate inter-agency response mechanism to address vulnerable children who require special attention.

Upon assumption of office in June 2016, Minister Zenysha has already established a special taskforce within the Ministry, with the purpose of strengthening inter-department coordination in addressing issues concerning children kept under the care of different shelters under Ministry’s mandate. The special taskforce will continue to provide necessary support to the inter-agency Stakeholder Working Group that was established today.
