Minister Zenysha visits shelter for victims of domestic violence and gender based violence in Thimphu

Minister of Gender and Family Ms. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has today visited a shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual and gender based violence in Thimphu.

During the visit, Minister Zenysha met with the management and staff at the shelter, to gain a better understanding of best practices in the region. Minister Zenysha also visited different classrooms of the shelter to acquire an understanding of the various programmes conducted for those who reside in the shelter. The shelter is run by RENEW, a non-profit organization dedicated to the empowerment of women and children in Bhutan.

Minister Zenysha is currently in Bhutan to attend a two-day Regional Consultation by South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children (SAIEVAC), an apex body of SAARC established in 2010. The Regional Consultation, organized by the SAIEVAC Regional Secretariat, in collaboration with South Asia Coordinating Group on Action Against Violence Against Children (SACG), is being held with a view to identify and work for the establishment of a common platform for stakeholders from South Asia to contribute for the achievement of SDG 8.7.
