Minister Zenysha Delivers Keynote Address at the Regional Consultation on SDG Alliance 8.7 – South Asia Launch

Minister of Gender and Family, Zenysha Shaheed Zaki, has delivered the keynote address at the Regional Consultation on SDG Alliance 8.7 – South Asia Launch, being held today in Thimpu, Bhutan.

Speaking at the event, Minister Zenysha reaffirmed the commitment of t overnment of Maldives to play an active role in protecting and promoting the rights of the child’. She stressed that preventing and eliminating all forms of violence against children is a shared responsibility, which requires a comprehensive,   coordinated   and   systematic  approach,   and   emphasized   the   need  for stronger

interagency collaboration among stakeholders at all levels as well as greater investments nationally, regionally and internationally. Minister Zenysha also highlighted that she assumed office under the mandate of the newly established Ministry of Gender and Family, ‘ with a renewed impetus towards greater collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to jointly address existing challenges and emerging issues faced by children”.

Minister Zenysha is currently in Bhutan to attend the two-day Regional Consultation by South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children (SAIVAC) an apex of SAARC established in 2010. The Regional Consultation; organized by the SAivAC Regional Secretariat, in collaboration with South Asia Coordinating Group on Action Against Violence Against Children (SACG), is being held with a view to identify and work for the establishment of a common platform for stakeholders from South Asia to contribute for the achievement of SDG 8.7.
