Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in May 2022

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 278 cases in May 2022.

Violence against Children:

  • A total of 137 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in May 2022.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse and physical abuse of which 31 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve, 26 cases of neglect, 20 cases of witness to domestic violence, 9 cases of victims of bullying and harrassment, 9 cases of emotional abuse, 4 cases of blackmailing, 3 cases of exploitation, 2 cases of commercial exploitation/ child labor and 2 cases of victims of cyber bullying.

Gender based violence and Domestic violence:

  • A total of 49 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in May 2022.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve 25 cases of physical violence/ abuse.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 13 cases of emotional abuse/ verbal abuse, 5 cases of intimidating, 3 cases of sexual violence/ abuse, 1 case of commercial exploitations, 1 case of neglect and 1 case of rape.

Family Issues:

  • A total of 31 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2022.
  • Reports include 15 cases of custody access, 7 cases of parenting issues, 6 cases of access to child and 3 cases of maintenance.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities:

  • A total of 19 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2022.
  • Reports include 18 cases of care and support for persons with disabilities and 1 case of care and support to the elderly.

Child rights violations:

  • A total of 2 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2022.
  • Reports include 1 case of acquiring NID card/ passport/ birth certificate and 1 case of refusal to send children to school.

Behavioral problems:

  • A total of 19 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems in May 2022.
  • Reports include 7 cases of running away, 5 cases of refusal to attend school, 3 cases of temper tantrums, 2 cases of aggressive, oppositional, or antisocial behavior, 1 case of delinquent behavior and 1 case of disciplinary issues.

Self-harm and Suicidal behavior:

  • A total of 14 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in May

Children under State care, Fostered and Reintegrated:

  • There are a total of 203 children under state care as of May 2022.
  • 6 children were taken into state care and 4 children were reintegrated with family.
