Address by Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Hon. Aishath Mohamed Didi at the Disability Global Summit

Excellencies, honorable speakers, distinguished guests, representatives from government and civils societies. It is a great honor to represent the Maldives and be part of the Global Disability Summit. I am inspired by the spirit of collaboration among governments and civil societies represented at this Summit.  On behalf of the MALDIVES, I am grateful for the opportunity to speak with you all.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A key priority area for the government of Maldives is to ensure the Rights and Wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities, and every effort will be made to promote an inclusive, accessible and sustainable society for all Maldivians.

Distinguished guests, in the name of the Government of Maldives, it gives me great honor to commit to:-

  • Increase coverage of social protection for persons with disabilities, advancing the realisation of universal social protection
  • Improve the adequacy and accessibility of social protection schemes for persons with disabilities
  • Provide social protection that supports and encourages economic participation of persons with disabilities

I believe that the discussions and agreements resulting from the two day Global Disability Summit will contribute to the efforts made to respond to the challenges faced by Persons with the Disabilities globally. I would like to end by expressing my best wishes for the summit and we await for such future engagements.

Thank you and wish you a successful summit.
