Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in July 2019

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 214 cases in July 2019, which is a decrease of 11 percent compared to the total cases received and attended in June 2019.

 

Violence against children

  • A total of 105 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which is a decrease of 16 percent compared to the total cases received and attended in June 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 34 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 25 cases of negligence, 19 cases of physical abuse, 11 cases of emotional abuse, 8 cases of victims of bullying and harassment, and 1 case of trafficking of children.

 

Child rights violations

  • A total of 4 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2019.
  • Reports include 2 cases of refusal of access to education, 1 case of violation of right to shelter and 1 case of denial of birth registration.

 

Family issues

  • A total of 27 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2019.
  • Reports include 14 cases of custody or access, 10 cases of parenting issues and 3 cases of child maintenance.

 

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 3 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2019.

 

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 19 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in July 2019.
  • Reports include 9 cases of refusal to attend school and 3 cases of running away.

 

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 35 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in July 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 13 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 5 cases of sexual abuse, 4 cases of rape, 3 cases of intimidation, 2 cases of negligence and 1 case of controlling behavior.

 

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2019.
  • Reports include 5 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 4 cases related to care and support for elderly.

 

Suicidal behaviour/ thoughts

  • 12 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behaviour were reported to and attended in July 2019.
