Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in April 2019

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 206 cases in April 2019.


Violence against children

  • A total of 113 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 55 percent of the total cases received and attended in April 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of negligence, of which 37 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 22 cases of sexual abuse, 22 cases of physical abuse, 22 cases of emotional abuse, 5 cases of witness to domestic violence, 4 cases of victims of bullying and harassment, and 1 case of commercial sexual exploitation.


Child rights violations

  • A total of 10 cases were reported to and attended in this category in April 2019.
  • Reports include 4 cases of violation of right to shelter, 4 cases of refusal of access to education, 1 case of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal to vaccinate children were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in April 2019.


Family issues

  • A total of 18 cases were reported to and attended in this category in April 2019.
  • Reports include 14 cases of custody or access, 3 cases of child maintenance and 1 case of parenting issues.


Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 4 cases were reported to and attended in this category in April 2019.
  • Reports include 1 case of physical assault or aggression.


Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 12 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in April 2019.
  • Reports include 3 cases of refusal to attend school, 3 cases of perpetrators of bullying and harassment, and 2 cases of running away.


Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 30 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in April 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 12 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of intimidation, 6 cases of sexual abuse, 4 cases of emotional or verbal abuse and 1 case of negligence.


Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended in this category in April 2019.
  • Reports include 9 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 5 cases related to care and support for elderly.


Suicidal behaviour/ thoughts

  • 5 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behaviour were reported to and attended in April 2019.
