Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in November 2018

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 166 cases in November 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 78 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 47 percent of the total cases received and attended in November 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of negligence, of which 23 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 21 cases of sexual abuse, 14 cases of physical violence, 11 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of victims of bullying and harassment, 1 case of victims of cyber bullying, 1 case of witness to domestic violence and 1 case of exploitation.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 5 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in November 2018.
  • Reports include 2 cases of refusal of access to education, 1 case of denial of birth registration, 1 case of refusal to acquire NID card or passport or birth certificate and 1 case of violation of right to shelter.

 Family issues

  • A total of 20 cases were reported to and attended in this category in November 2018.
  • Reports include 10 cases of parenting issues, 8 cases of custody or access and 2 cases of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 11 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in November 2018.
  • Reports include 4 cases of theft, 2 cases of drug use and 1 case of physical assault and aggression.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in November 2018.
  • Reports include 7 cases of refusal to attend school and 2 cases of running away.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 27 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in November 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 12 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of rape, 2 cases of sexual harassment, 1 case of negligence, 1 case of withholding or damage to property and 1 case of intimidation.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 10 cases were reported to and attended in this category in November 2018.
  • Reports include 6 cases related to care and support for elderly and 4 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 6 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in November 2018.
