Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in September 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 237 cases in September 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 110 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 46 percent of the total cases received and attended in September 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of negligence, of which 37 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 24 cases of sexual abuse, 23 cases of physical violence, 11 cases of emotional abuse, 7 cases of witness to domestic violence, 7 cases of victims of bullying and harassment and 1 case of exploitation.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 7 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in September 2018.
  • Reports include 4 cases of refusal for access to education, 2 cases of refusal to acquire NID card or passport or birth certificate and 1 case of violation of right to shelter..

 Family issues

  • A total of 20 cases were reported to and attended in this category in September 2018, which amounts to 8 percent of the total cases received and attended last month.
  • Reports include 8 cases of custody or access, 6 cases of child maintenance and 5 cases of parenting issues.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 17 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in September 2018.
  • Reports include 11 cases of physical assault and aggression and 4 case of vandalism and deliberate damage to Property.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 25 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in September 2018.
  • Reports include 8 cases of refusal to attend school, 8 cases of running away and 7 cases of perpetrators of bullying and harassment.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 45 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in September 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 30 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 8 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 2 cases of negligence, 1 case of intimidation, 1 case of commercial exploitation, 1 case of controlling behavior, 1 case of economic and financial abuse and 1 case of rape.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 7 cases were reported to and attended in this category in September 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 2 cases related to care and support for elderly.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 6 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in September 2018.
