Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in May 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 188 cases in May 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 108 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 57 percent of the total cases received and attended in May 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 37 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 30 cases of physical violence, 20 cases of neglect, 6 cases of emotional abuse, 5 cases of bullying and harassment and 1 case of witness to domestic violence.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in May 2018.
  • Reports include 7 cases of refusal for access to education and 2 cases of violation of right to health care and medical.

Family issues

  • A total of 26 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2018, which amounts to 14 percent of the total cases received and attended last month.
  • Reports include 17 cases of custody or access, 8 case of parenting issues and 1 case of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 2 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in May 2018, which were 2 cases of physical assault or aggression.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 8 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in May 2018.
  • Reports include 3 cases of running away, 1 case of refusal to attend school and 1 case of perpetrator of cyber bullying.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 22 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in May 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 11 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 5 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of sexual abuse, 2 cases of intimidation and 1 case of rape.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 7 cases were reported to and attended in this category in May 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases related to care and support for elderly and 2 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 6 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior was reported to and attended in May 2018.
