Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in April 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 238 cases in April 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 116 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 49 percent of the total cases received and attended in April 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of neglect, of which 44 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 35 cases of sexual abuse, 16 cases of physical violence, 11 cases of emotional abuse, 5 cases of bullying and harassment, 2 cases of witness to domestic violence and 2 cases of cyber bullying.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 6 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in April 2018.
  • Reports include 3 cases of refusal for access to education and 3 cases of violation of right to shelter.

Family issues

  • A total of 46 cases were reported to and attended in this category in April 2018 which amounts to 19 percent of the total cases received and attended last month.
  • Reports include 27 cases of custody or access, 14 case of parenting issues and 5 cases of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 12 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in April 2018, which include 3 cases of physical assault or aggression, 2 cases of theft, 1 case of damage to property and 1 case of drug possession.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in April 2018.
  • Reports include 4 cases of temper tantrums, 4 cases of refusal to attend school, 2 cases of running away, 2 cases of perpetrators of cyber bullying and 1 case of perpetrators of bullying.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 25 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in April 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 10 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 5 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of controlling behavior, 2 cases of intimidation, 1 case of economic and financial abuse, 1 case of physical violence and 1 case of economic and financial abuse.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended in this category in April 2018.
  • Reports include 7 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 6 cases related to care and support for elderly.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 7 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior was reported to and attended in April 2018.
