Minister Zenysha reiterates Maldives commitment to ensuring that the rights of children are realized and that no child is left behind

Minister of Gender and Family, H.E. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has participated at the high level event “A Promise to Children: Their Rights and Well-being in the SDGs”, held today at the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.

Speaking as a panelist at the event, Minister Zenysha stated that the Government of Maldives, under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom remains committed to playing an active role in promoting and protecting the rights of the child and to ensure that no child is left behind. In this regard, she highlighted the Government’s policies to protect children from violence and the introduction of a comprehensive universal health coverage scheme which ensures every child’s right to health and well-being.

Noting that every individual has a shared responsibility to ensure that the welfare and security of children are accounted for, and that every child can grow up in a safe environment, Minister Zenysha emphasized the need for stronger partnerships between Government and other stakeholders, at national, regional and international level.

The event was organised jointly by “World Vision”, “Child Fund”, “Save the Children”, “SOS Children’s Villages” and “PLAN International”.
