Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in November 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 238 cases in November 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 124 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 52 percent of the total cases received and attended in November 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve sexual abuse. A total of 57 cases were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 30 cases of physical abuse, 19 cases of neglect, 10 cases of emotional abuse, 3 cases of witness to domestic violence, 4 cases of bullying and harassment and 1 case of cyber bullying and harassment.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 5 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in November 2017.
  • Reports include 1 case of stealing and 1 case of drug use.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in November 2017.
  • Reports include 6 cases of temper tantrums, 4 cases of refusal to attend school, 3 cases of running away and 1 case of perpetrators of cyber bullying.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 4 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in November 2017.
  • Reports include 2 cases of refusal to acquire NID card or passport or birth certificate, 1 case of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal to vaccinate children.

Family issues

  • A total of 42 cases were reported to and attended in this category in November 2017.
  • Reports include 25 cases of custody or access, 11 cases of parenting issues, and 5 cases of child maintenance.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 35 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in November 2017, which amounts to 15 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, where 17 cases of physical abuse were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 8 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 3 cases of intimidation, 2 cases of sexual abuse, 2 cases of neglect, 2 cases of withholding and damage to property and 1 case of controlling behavior.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 12 cases were reported to and attended in this category in November 2017.
  • Reports include 6 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 6 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • A total of 2 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in November 2017.
