Cases Reported and Attended by the Ministry in August 2017

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 246 cases in August 2017.

Violence against children

  • A total of 131 cases were reported and attended to regarding violence against children, which amounts to 53 percent of the total cases received and attended in August 2017.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve incidents of sexual abuse. A total of 37 cases were reported in this category.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 33 cases of neglect, 32 cases of physical abuse, 24 cases of emotional abuse, 3 cases of bullying and harassment and 2 cases of witness to domestic violence.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 6 cases were reported and attended to regarding children in conflict with the law in August 2017.
  • Reports include 1 case of physical assault or aggression, 1 case of stealing, 1 case of drug use and 1 case of drug dealing.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 15 cases were reported and attended to regarding behavioural problems of children in August 2017.
  • Reports include 6 cases of temper tantrums, 5 cases of refusal to attend school, 1 case of perpetrators of bullying, 1 case of cyber bullying, 1 case of harassment and 1 case of running away.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 5 cases were reported and attended to regarding child rights violations in August 2017.
  • Reports include 3 cases of refusal for access to education, 1 case of birth registration, and 1 case of refusal for access to health care.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 36 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported and attended to in August 2017, which amounts to 15 percent of the total cases.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical and emotional abuse, where 17 cases of physical abuse and 12 cases of emotional abuse were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 2 cases of sexual violence or abuse, 2 cases of intimidation, 1 case of neglect, 1 case of economic and financial abuse and 1 case of withhold or damage to property.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 19 cases were reported and attended to in this category in August 2017.
  • Reports include 14 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 5 cases regarding care and support for elderly.

Self-harm and suicidal behavior

  • A total of 8 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported and attended to in August 2017.
