Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in December 2020

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 231 cases in December 2020.

 

Violence against Children:

  • A total of 108 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in December 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 37 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 22 cases of victims of neglect, 16 cases of victims of physical abuse, 14 cases of witnesses to domestic violence, 12 cases of victims of emotional abuse, 3 cases of victims of cyberbullying, 1 case of victim of bullying, 1 case of victim of commercial sexual exploitation.

Behavioral problems:

  • A total of 7 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems of children in December 2020.
  • Reports include 4 cases of temper tantrums and 3 cases of running away.

 

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities:

  • A total of 18 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2020.
  • Reports include 11 cases of care support for persons with disabilities and 7 cases of care and support to the elderly.

Child rights violations:

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2020.
  • Reports include 9 cases of refusal for access to education, 3 cases of violation of right to safe drinking water / electricity, 1 case of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal in acquiring NID card/passport/birth certificate.

 

Children in conflict with the law:

  • A total of 7 cases of this category were reported to and attended in December 2020.
  • Reports include 4 cases of theft and 1 case of vandalism/deliberate damage to property.

 

Family Issues:

  • A total of 29 cases were reported to and attended in this category in December 2020.
  • Reports include 19 cases of custody/access issues and 10 cases of parenting issues.

 

Gender based violence and Domestic violence:

  • A total of 41 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in December 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve 18 cases of physical abuse.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 12 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of sexual violence, 2 cases of intimidation, 1 case of economic & financial abuse, 1 case of neglect and 1 case of rape.

 

Self-harm and Suicidal behavior:

  • 7 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in December 2020.
  • Reports include 3 cases of suicidal behavior, 2 cases of suicidal thoughts and 2 cases of self-harming.

 

Children under State care, Fostered and Reintegrated:

  • A total of 10 children were taken to State Care and 1 child was reintegrated with family in December 2020.
  • There are total of 219 Children under State Care as of December 2020.
