Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in March 2019

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 253 cases in March 2019.

Violence against children

  • A total of 131 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 52 percent of the total cases received and attended in March 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of physical abuse, of which 38 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 35 cases of negligence, 32 cases of sexual abuse, 14 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of witness to domestic violence, 3 cases of victims of cyber bullying and 02 cases of victims of bullying and harassment.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 6 cases were reported to and attended in this category in March 2019.
  • Reports include 04 cases of violation of right to safe drinking water or electricity, 01 case of refusal of access to education and 01 case of acquiring NID card/ passport/ birth certificate were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in March 2019.

Family issues

  • A total of 27 cases were reported to and attended in this category in March 2019.
  • Reports include 14 cases of custody or access, 8 cases of parenting issues and 3 cases of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 5 cases were reported to and attended in this category in March 2019.
  • Reports include 4 cases of vandalism and damage to property and 1 case of theft.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 15 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in March 2019.
  • Reports include 5 cases of running away and 4 cases of refusal to attend school.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 38 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in March 2019.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 12 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 7 cases of sexual abuse, 5 cases of intimidation, 2 cases of sexual harassment, 2 cases of rape, 1 case of negligence, 1 case of controlling behavior and 1 case of economic and financial abuse.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 19 cases were reported to and attended in this category in March 2019.
  • Reports include 14 cases related to care and support for elderly and 5 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 12 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in March 2019.
