Ministry of Gender and Family has established a Medical Unit at Fiyavathi Shelter in Hulhumale.
The Medical Unit was officially inaugurated by Minister of Gender and Family Ms Zenysha Shaheed Zaki at a function held today at Fiyavathi.
Speaking at the event, Minister Zenysha stated that the Government gives high priority to promote the health and well-being of children under State Care and to ensure that their basic needs are met. She further noted that the establishment of the Medical Unit at Fiyavathi contributes towards further development of the field.
Nurses will work on shift-duty basis at the Medical Unit, which is equipped to provide in-patient care and attend to common illnesses and minor injuries as well as health screenings. In addition, intravenous therapy, dressings and general pharmaceutical products will also be available at the Medical Unit.
Prior to this, children were provided with medical care at a Sick Room established at Fiyavathi.
The Medical Unit was established with the assistance from Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and Malahini Kuda Bandos.
Currently, there are 91 children under the age of 12 at Fiyavathi.
