Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in August 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 193 cases in August 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 89 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 46 percent of the total cases received and attended in August 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 26 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 20 cases of physical violence, 18 cases of negligence, 8 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of exploitation, 4 cases of victims of cyber bullying, 4 cases of bullying and harassment, 2 cases of witness to domestic violence and 1 case of commercial exploitation.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 2 cases of refusal for access to education were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in August 2018.

Family issues

  • A total of 29 cases were reported to and attended in this category in August 2018, which amounts to 15 percent of the total cases received and attended last month.
  • Reports include 21 cases of custody or access, 6 cases of parenting issues and 2 cases of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 8 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in August 2018.
  • Reports include 3 cases of physical assault and aggression, 1 case of theft and 1 case of vandalism and deliberate damage to Property.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in August 2018.
  • Reports include 6 cases of refusal to attend school, 3 cases of perpetrators of bullying and harassment, and 1 case of running away.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 33 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in August 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 12 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 4 cases of sexual abuse, 3 cases of intimidation, 2 cases of negligence, 2 cases of commercial exploitation, 1 case of controlling behavior, 1 case of withholding or damage to property, and 1 case of economic and financial abuse.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended in this category in August 2018.
  • Reports include 10 cases related to care and support for elderly and 3 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 6 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in August 2018.
