Ministry of Gender and Family has organized special holiday camps for children under State Care to coincide with school holidays.
The camps, organized by the Ministry in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service, included a number of age appropriate activities to develop children’s skills and cater to their different areas of interest.
The camp held for Fiyavathi Shelter from 25 – 26 March 2018 targeted children studying in Grades 1 to 6 while the camp held for Kudakudhinge Hiya Shelter from 26 – 27 March 2018 included children above Grade 6.
The areas covered in the camps included teamwork, self-confidence and personal safety, rights and responsibilities, and career guidance. The Ministry also conducted similar programmes for children under State Care during the annual school holidays in January this year.
A total of 136 children are currently under State Care, out of which Fiyavathi Shelter houses 89 children aged below 12 years while Kudakudhinge Hiya is home to 47 children above the age of 12.
