A “Positive Parenting Training” programme has been conducted for 24 care workers at Fiyavathi Shelter in Hulhumale’.
The programme, conducted in two batches, aimed to enrich the skills and capacity of childcare workers at Fiyavathi. Twenty-four participants were trained in this programme under the first and second batches, held from 4 – 21 February and from 4 – 21 March consecutively. The programme was conducted by the Society for Health Education (SHE), with assistance from Kurumba Maldives and Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC).
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Ms. Aminath Shifana, awarded certificates to the participants at the closing ceremony held at Fiyavathi this evening. While addressing the Permanent Secretary stressed on the importance of the services provided by care workers, and highlighted the need to provide essential training both for human resource development and to ensure the well-being of children living under state care.
The programme covered a range of topics including ‘growth and development’, ‘rights and needs of children’, ‘developmental stages of children’, ‘communication skills’, ‘active listening’, ‘anger management’, ‘conflict resolution’, ‘personal safety’ and ‘self-care’.
With the conclusion of these trainings, a total of four batches on “Positive Parenting Training” programme have been conducted by the Ministry to date.
At present, 138 children live under State Care, out of which 87 children below the age of 12 years reside in Fiyavathi shelter.
