Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted an orientation programme for Community Social Groups (CSGs) in Thaa Atoll, in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives, Ministry of Education, Maldives Police Service and Juvenile Justice Unit.
The objective of the programme is to empower representatives from atoll and island councils, police, schools and health centers, to establish CSGs and implement their roles and responsibilities in providing support and improving services to vulnerable children, elderly, persons with disabilities and victims of domestic violence. The orientation programme also aims to increase awareness on existing social issues as well as emerging issues, and create a platform for close collaboration between stakeholders for the protection of the rights of vulnerable persons.
A total of 42 participants from 13 islands took part in the programme which was held from 23 to 25 February 2018. The composition of CSG’s will include social workers and representatives from island councils, police, health and education sector, and women’s development committees.
Initiated to identify and assist vulnerable groups who require special protection and support within the community, the Ministry has established CSG’s in Shaviyani Atoll, Baa Atoll, Kaafu Atoll, Gaafu Alif Atoll, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.
