Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted “Ranveyla” Campaign activities for senior citizens in all islands of Dhaalu Atoll.
A number of senior citizens took part in the ‘Ranveyla’ campaign awareness sessions, conducted in Kudahuvadhoo, Meedhoo, Bandidhoo, Hulhudheli, Rinbudhoo and Maaenboodhoo of Dh.Atoll, which focused on increasing participation of senior citizens within the family and community, enhancing care and assistance provided for them and improving their health and wellbeing. The Ministry also collaborated with the hospital and health centres of Dhaalu atoll to conduct health screening sessions for senior citizens in all islands of the atoll. In addition, over 250 youth participated in interactive sessions, organized by the Ministry, aimed to bridge the intergenerational gap between senior citizens and youth.
As part of the campaign activities, a three-day workshop was held at Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo for health and social service workers, with the aim of improving the quality of services and support provided to the elderly population at community level. A total of 34 participants from all islands of Dh.Atoll and 12 islands of Th.Atoll completed this workshop. The workshop covered a range of topics including physical and psychological health and challenges faced by senior citizens within the community, care and support for bedridden patients, as well as information about state care pension scheme.
Minister Zenysha awarded certificates to all 34 participants who completed the workshop at a special ceremony held in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo yesterday. Addressing the ceremony, Minister Zenysha noted that, “it is encouraging to see senior citizens across the country taking part in fitness and health programmes.” She also highlighted that senior citizen who are leading by example “through continuous learning and active participation within their homes and community are an inspiration for younger generations.” Minister Zenysha further stated that the National Elderly Policy launched by the Ministry in 2017 was formulated with the experience and information shared by participants from Ranveyla campaign sessions and that the Ministry aims to conduct different programmes for senior citizens as part of the policy implementation.
“Ranveyla” campaign was launched by the Ministry of Gender and Family in August 2016 to promote the wellbeing of senior citizens. Activities and programs of this nation-wide campaign has now been held in all islands of Baa, Lhaviyani, and Meemu atolls.
