Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted a Media Sensitization Programme on protecting and promoting the rights of the elderly population under the “Ranveyla” Campaign. A total of 6 media outlets attended the programme held today in the Ministry.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the programme, Minister of Gender and Family Hon. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki noted the importance of media in disseminating information and raising awareness, and expressed hope that participants will play an active role in highlighting the challenges faced by the elderly, as well as to promote the participation, care and well-being of senior citizens.
‘Ranveyla’ is a nationwide awareness campaign launched last month with the aim of increasing participation of elderly persons within their family; enhancing care and support, and improving their health and wellbeing. Under the campaign, a training programme has been conducted for all social workers and health officers of Baa Atoll and special health screening programmes have also been held for elderly people in four islands of Baa Atoll.
