The Ministry of Gender and Family has concluded a series of awareness sessions on preventing child abuse and empowering children against all forms of violence in H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi. Over 330 students from H.Dh Atoll Education Centre, 267 students from Afeefuddin School and 80 students from Jalaaludheen School participated in these sessions.
A total of 13 sessions were conducted in H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi this month over a period of 3 days. Over 680 students from grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 were educated on how to protect themselves from abuse and neglect, how to reach out to victims of abuse, ways to cope and heal and the importance of reporting abuse.
The sessions were conducted in collaboration with Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC), under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry last year to raise awareness on child abuse prevention through “Ahan” campaign.
“Ahan” campaign was launched in 2015 by the Ministry to promote the rights of the children and to end all forms of violence against children. As part of this campaign, awareness sessions were conducted for students in all the islands of Meemu atoll in August 2016. The Ministry plans to conduct similar sessions throughout the country.
