The Ministry of Gender and Family has concluded “Ranveyla” Campaign programmes in all the islands of Lhaviyani Atoll.
As part of the “Ranveyla” Campaign, the Ministry in partnership with Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital and respective health centers conducted health screenings for senior citizens. Over 178 individuals above the age of 65 years old were screened for blood pressure, blood sugar level and Body Mass Index (BMI).
A training programme was also carried out with the aim of improving the quality of services and support provided to the elderly population. 19 social workers and health officers working in Lhaviyani atoll participated in the workshop held from 14 to 15 July.
Furthermore, over 120 senior citizens participated in “Ranveyla” campaign awareness sessions which focused on increasing participation of senior citizens within the family and community, enhancing care and assistance provided for them and improving their health and wellbeing. Interactive sessions were also held for youth to bridge the intergenerational gap between senior citizens and youth.
“Ranveyla” campaign was launched by the Ministry of Gender and Family in August 2016 to promote the wellbeing of senior citizens. Programmes and activities of this campaign have been carried out in all islands of Baa and Meemu atoll and the Ministry plans to continue this campaign throughout the Maldives.
