The Ministry of Gender and Family has concluded “Ranveyla” Campaign programmes in all 8 islands of Meemu Atoll. Over 160 senior citizens participated in the awareness sessions which focused on increasing participation of senior citizens within the family and community, enhancing care and assistance provided for them and improving their health and well-being. Information sessions were also held for more than 220 youth from Meemu Atoll to facilitate more interaction between youth and senior citizens, and identify ways to address the intergeneration gap.
As part of “Ranveyla” Campaign, the Ministry in partnership with Meemu Atoll hospital and respective health centers also conducted health screenings for senior citizens. Moreover, a training programme was carried out for social service workers and health officers working in Meemu Atoll with the aim of improving the quality of services and support provided for the elderly population.
“Ranveyla” Campaign was launched by the Ministry of Gender and Family in August 2016 and the programmes and activities of this campaign have been carried out in all islands of Baa and Lhaviyani Atoll earlier this year. The Ministry hopes to carry out the activities of this campaign throughout the Maldives.
