Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in January 2022

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 254 cases in January 2022.

Violence against Children:

  • A total of 105 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in January 2022.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of witness to domestic violence, of which 21 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 20 cases of sexual abuse, 20 cases of neglect, 14 cases of physical abuse, 11 cases of commercial exploitation/ child labor, 10 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of victim of exploitation and 3 cases of victims of harassment.

Gender-based violence and Domestic violence:

  • A total of 56 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in January 2022.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve 24 cases of physical violence/ abuse.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 14 cases of emotional abuse/ verbal abuse, 7 cases of intimidating, 5 cases of sexual violence/ abuse, 5 cases of rape and 1 case of sexual harassment.

Family Issues:

  • A total of 38 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2022.

Reports include 19 cases of custody or access, 14 cases of parenting issues and 5 cases of maintenance.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities:

  • A total of 18 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2022.
  • Reports include 17 cases of care and support for persons with disabilities and 1 case of care and support to the elderly.

Child rights violations:

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended in this category in January 2022.
  • Reports include 7 cases of violation of rights to safe drinking water / electricity, 4 cases of NID card/ passport/ birth certificate and 2 cases of birth registration.

Behavioral problems:

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems in January  
  • Reports include 6 cases of running away, 4 cases of temper tantrums and 3 cases of refusal to attend to school.

Self-harm and Suicidal behavior:

  • A total of 11 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in January 2022.

Children under State care, Fostered and Reintegrated:

  • 8 children reintegrated with families in January 2022.
  • There are a total of 193 children under state care as of January 2022.
